Changes in Syai

I don't know how I've come to have two blogs, but I might as well keep this one exclusively for information or a kind of diary of developments in the Syai language. With the language goes the second book I'm writing, whereby the reader gets taken to the Syai planet and gets some idea of Syai culture and the structure of Syai society as it is now, centuries after the 'Great Collapse'.

The development of the language itself has undergone something of a revolution. I have simplified and made more transparent and 'associative' its basis, and I have abandoned the old distorted Roman Alphabet addaption, where some letters had to work in an unfamiliar way. So if R.A. is used,it is used in a way easily understood at least by English speakers. This makes its use very clumsy, so the preference is all along going to be the use of the 'native' syai lettering. In fact, in using the 'native' letters, I find Syai becoming for me much more like a 'real' language. A task that is a bit beyond me at present is to get these letters into a font on my computer. My book 'Okraalom' is self-published now, giving a distant historical background to the Syai world. It is a romantic novel, entertaining in itself. Please e-mail me if anyone sees this blog and has an interest in getting a copy.

Why I am trying out a blog to start with

Hi. The subject of this blogging (if successful) is The Culture and Language of the good aliens, and how we on Earth are doing by comparison.

The idea of doing this blog comes from my frustration over creating a number of web pages on the subject, but for the present I am unable to find the technical expertise or find the answers to the problems that go with getting the pages up on a web server.

Anyway, this is a kind of 'science fiction' enterprise, if you like, though it involves a lot of comment on what's going on (and has gone on for centuries) here on Earth. The civilization that seems to have 'made it' in ways we haven't (yet) is called the Syai, and they are on planet Tuurioe (roughly pronounced 'too-ree-er'). Don't ask me how I know they exist or how I got in touch with them; that's not the subject here or on the web site. All I can tell you is that the universe is so vast they are very likely to exist - or at least a civilization very like them. They claim to be descended from rodents who lived in trees and developed very like the apes of this planet. They have very large domesticated rat-like creatures that they find very intelligent, easy to train and useful - even better than dogs. That's why I call them 'The Rat People of Tuurioe'. They also have a complex but easy-to-learn language, and so the web site will have quite a lot of reference to 'planned languages' as well as to 'approaches to utopia.
